1. Herberg de Troost – Verder naar vroeger…
Herberg de Troost, een band bestaande uit een aantal leden van Rowwen Hèze en andere Limburgse topartiesten bestaat nu zo’n drie jaar. De band schrijft liedjes met als thema: even uit de dagelijkse sleur. Hun gedachten: Neem een keer niet de kortste route via de hectische snelweg waar we ons dagelijks op bevinden, maar ga een keer binnendoor over de landwegen en zandpaden.
Deze band heeft naar mijn mening een nieuwe belevenis aan concerten gegeven. Dit door concerten te geven op unieke en authentieke locaties. Neem bijvoorbeeld een oude vervallen herberg, midden in een stiltegebied in de Peel (d.m.v. koptelefoons) of een leegstaande kerk. Ook worden tijdens deze concerten Bourgondische hapjes uitgedeeld en zit het publiek dicht op de band. Er hangt een echte huiselijke en gemoedelijke sfeer. Ik vind dit ‘cool’ omdat deze band je even meeneemt in de authentieke sfeer van vroeger. Deze concerten heb ik in 2011 en eind 2012 gezien in Geleen en Horst (LB).
2. Recyclede materialen
Onderweg van Station Tilburg naar de Fontys kwam ik van de week dit tegen: Een plein omheind met oude bouwhekken, steigerbuizen en pallets. Ik vind dit ‘cool’ omdat hier op een creatieve manier een omheining is gemaakt van ‘oude’ bouwmaterialen.
3. Groente in een onnatuurlijke vorm
Gisteren (za 23 februari 2013) ben ik naar de nieuwe theatervoorstelling van Ronald Goedemondt (cabaretier) geweest. Hij had het ook over verschillende ‘nieuwe’ en ‘rare’ dingen die hij op straat en in de winkel tegen kwam. Hier kwamen ook wortelbolletjes ter sprake. Je hebt namelijk gewone wortels, geraspte wortels en sinds kort ook wortelbolletjes. Wortels in vorm van bolletjes. Wat hier de bedoeling van is weet niemand, ook hij niet. Ik heb deze coolhunt gepakt, omdat ik het wel interessant vond om te zien dat ze tegenwoordig ook groente verkopen in een nieuwe onnatuurlijke vorm.
4. Røde iXY Microfoon
Tegenwoordig wordt het voor artiesten en muzikanten steeds gemakkelijker en goedkoper om thuis zelf professionele opnamen te maken. Sinds kort kun je zelfs met je iPhone hoogwaardige audio opnamen maken.

Every year we see innovative tools emerge for a wide array of media professionals. The RØDE iXY has very clear applications across several disciplines. Many of the press images show the recorder sitting in a hot shoe mount atop a DSLR. While a handy concept for run-and-gun shoots or recording on-the-street interviews, we wish there was XLR compatibility to support professional level production. That being said, the device captures HD quality audio with a resolution of 25-Bits / 96kHz (the highest quality of any iPhone microphone available)—extremely impressive for a device that fits easily in the palm of your hand. With a sturdy carrying case that would be equally comfortable in your jacket pocket or a backpack, the iXY has enormous promise for recording lectures, concerts, interviews and seems like an exceptional tool for traveling journalists.
The quality of audio captured by the iXY is quite impressive, definitely a viable replacement for a separate device in the field. The RØDE Rec software also packs some great features including various types of compression, live input monitoring and a non-linear editing functionality. The most useful feature might be the ability to output in several of the most common formats and directly publish to Soundcloud, Dropbox or upload directly to an ftp—extremely handy if you are trying to get info back to HQ on the fly.
Several accessories are said to be in the pipeline, and an iPhone 5 upgrade is in the works. In the meantime Apple’s Lightning to 30-pin adapter works like a charm. The iXY will sell for $199 from the RØDEstore and ships in January 2013, the RØDE Rec app is available at the App Store.
